Session Review
"The trustees would like to thank Clara for the informative session held for long distance runners and coaches on the subject of nutrition and in particular the role of supplements.
There was some excellent information covered and everyone who attended was able to leave with a more informed view. As Clara indicated this area of knowledge continues to expand and change and it was good to see some of the latest findings included in the presentation.
The talk identified that the gut is a muscle that can and needs to be trained, especially for energy intake before and during training runs and races.
Nutrition is an area that runners often assume they know well. However these assumptions are not always well grounded in fact or research conducted by scientifically recognised bodies and peer-reviewed. Clara's presentation of the ISSN view on supplements was therefore very interesting.
Many thanks to Julia from Pure for demonstrating and giving away products for people to try.
Clara has made her presentation available to those who attended. If others would like to access it then please contact us: a.campbellfcl@gmail.com
The Trust's next workshop will focus on the use of technology and shoes - more on this will be posted shortly. "
